Story
A group of naked protesters collected on campus to protest the Universities supposed connection to sweatshops. Students Organizing for Justice in the Americas and United Students Against Sweatshops have erected efforts to educate other students and faculty members about what they believe are unfair labor practices. Their focus concerns University contracts with company’s like Coca-Cola who they believe violate basic workers’ rights. Various universities around the nation have stripped agreements with Coca-Cola with the same justification used by protesters. Apparel with the official UC Berkeley logo printed on it, they claim, resembles the universities connection with human rights violators. UC Berkeley faculty responded to the issue stating their commitment to Worker Rights Consortium which requires companies that the University to work with to adhere to labor laws. The tactic of a naked demonstration turned heads, however the question of whether it will turn over university contract leaves both the naked and clothed wondering if nudity for a cause will bare results.
