New studies out of New York, Italy, and Switzerland have theorized that the brain processes love similarly to mental illness. What, then, is love? A feeling that is truly universal, or one that is reserved for the insane?

Scientists worldwide claim to have discovered the brain’s road map to love, and liken its chemical reaction to that of mental disorders. The findings say that the progression from lust to passion to attachment is controlled by brain processes every step of the way, and a romantically strong relationship has a shelf life of four years. Is science justified in explaining human emotions, or should love’s reasoning lie within the individual?
