Story
A recent study sponsored by the Pews Charitable Trust, using the NAAL test for adult literacy has shown that an estimated 1 in 2 graduating students in any field find it difficult to complete basic “real life” tasks such as reading a map, ordering supplies online, or filling out a credit application. This number increases to 3 out of 4 students at a two year university or community college. The study shows that of the 1800 plus students tested nationwide, they did worst in situations that required math skills.
While the literacy rate is many above average in the aformentioned demographic compared to any other group of adults in the United States, this advancement does not correlate to this new work forces ability to handle everyday situations outside of the classroom.
